What is PAN?
Permanent Account Number. A 10 digit alphanumeric code, first 5 alphabets, 4 numbers and one alphabet at last (like AAAPC9999P).
Who can apply for PAN?
All existing taxpayers or persons who are required to file a return of income, even on behalf of others, must have a PAN. Any person, who intends to enter into economic or financial transactions where quoting PAN is mandatory, must also have a PAN.
Is it compulsory to quote PAN on ‘return of income’?
Yes, it is compulsory to quote PAN on return of income.
Can I obtain or use more than one PAN?
Obtaining/possessing more than one PAN is against the law and may attract a penalty upto Rs.10, 000. Therefore it is advisable not to obtain/possess more than one PAN. If you have more than one PAN, you should surrender the unused PAN by logging into ITD website atwww.incometaxindia.gov.in.
What documents should I submit along with the application form?
You have to submit the following documents with the application form:
A] Proof of identity (POI)
B] Proof of address (POA)
C] Proof of date of birth (PODB) (applicable only for Individual & HUF status of applicant.) (POA)

What is TAN?
TAN or Tax Deduction and Collection Number (TAN) is mandatory 10 digit alpha number required to be obtained by all persons who are responsible for Tax Deduction at Source (TDS) or Tax Collection at Source (TCS) on behalf of the Government. Tax deducted at source (TDS) ensures that the Government’s collection of tax is proponed and the responsibility for paying tax is diversified
The person deducting the tax at source is required to deposit the tax deducted to the credit of Central Government – quoting the TAN number
Who can apply for TAN?
Salaried Individuals are not required to obtain TAN or deduct tax at source. However, a proprietorship business, Private Limited Company, LLP, OPC must deduct tax at source while making certain payment like salary, payments to contractor or sub-contractors, payment of rent exceeding Rs.1,80,000 per year, etc. On deducting tax at source, the entity registered for TAN will issue a TDS Certificate as proof of collection of tax.
Can PAN be used instead of TAN?
No, PAN cannot be used where TAN is required. PAN and TAN serve two different purposes. Therefore, it is mandatory for those deducting tax at source to obtain a TAN.
What documents should I submit along with the application form?
To obtain TAN, application must be made in Form 49B at any of the authorized TAN Facilitation Center. SunBrio will take responsibility to file for TAN application at the appropriate TAN Facilitation Centre.
