What are the charges for applying for an IEC Code in India?
The Government Fees for applying are Rs 500/- across all the regional DGFT offices. As we apply for through the Government’s online portal, we charge Rs 3,000/- [Including the Government Fees].
Why do we apply through the Government’s Online Portal?
The benefit for obtaining eIEC through the online portal, is that it automatically gets updated in all the Custom Authorities across India. If you obtain it through the local office counter, you will have to update the IEC with your port’s Customs Authority to be able to import or export any product through that port. This creates a big obstacle while carrying out the process of import or export through any port across India. Thus, by obtaining the code through the online portal, your details are automatically updated with all the Customs Authorities across India and you do not have to follow this procedure for carrying out import or export activity through any port across India.
Along with this, the online process is much less time consuming and efficient than applying through the manual method.
What is the validity of Import Export Code in India ?
The validity of the IEC is lifetime. It is linked with the PAN Card, and as a PAN Card also does not have any validity clause, it also follows the same principles.
There is an option of surrendering it in case you are not going to need it further.
